The specialised speech-language therapists from Talking Trouble are here to help. We have extensive experience of working as a Communication Assistants in legal contexts, and specific expertise in areas such as communicating with children and communicating with people who have experienced trauma, or where challenging experiences or diagnoses might be relevant to how they engage.

We offer professional development that is highly focussed, impactful and immediately translatable into your contexts. We also offer training delivered jointly with other legal professionals.
Our sessions are tailored to meet your specific needs e.g.
Communication with a specific client or a specific process/communication context - explaining information and processes, taking instruction, preparing for questioning, checking understanding and decision making.
Using plain language
Understanding more about language and communication in childhood and adulthood, and factors that can impact – how to identify when a different approach might help
Analysing the communication demands related to your role or task with a child, youth or adult
Learning and practising specific communication strategies under guidance and receiving feedback
Observation and feedback to you about your communication style and strategy use in a strengths-based, supportive and confidential context
Developing specific plain language resources for your context e.g. a resource that introduces you to your clients in language that is easy to understand, or a resource that helps explain common processes relevant to your practice.
Tell us what would work best for you, and we can set it up.

Once your payment has been received your place on the training is confirmed. If you need to cancel, the following options apply:

Cancellation 14 days from the event: A 50% refund can be offered. Or the full amount can be held over and applied to the next event offered. (See next offer terms). Alternatively you can nominate another person to take your place on the course.

Within the 7 day timeframe we are unable to transfer your course fee to another course.
Talking Trouble Aotearoa NZ bears no responsibility for any costs incurred (such as flights, accommodation, travel expenses) or loss of income.
"Next Offer" terms
If you can advise you are not able to attend your booked training 14 days from the first training date, you can choose a 50% refund, or to have your funds held over to apply to the next training, and the following terms apply:
A place will be offered on the next available scheduled event online or in your region or that you are prepared to travel to. If you choose this option your name will be placed on a standby list for the next suitable training events and a place will be offered. A re-booking fee is payable in each case of $95.00.
If the next date offered is unsuitable, we can hold the “next offer” to one more event. Offers cannot be made ongoing and will not be possible after 1 year from your original event which was not attended.
Course non-completion (relates to Talking Mats training courses only)
If you complete part of a training course but cannot attend all of it, it may be possible to join another Foundation Training course to complete your training or it may be possible to offer an individual feedback session. A payment of $220 (Incl $20 GST) will be required. We cannot guarantee a place in the next course as attendance will be subject to available places.
If We Cancel
If due to unforeseen circumstances we need to cancel the event after you have paid your invoice, a full refund will be offered. If you prefer us to hold funds and transfer these to the next event, this option will be offered if available. If we need to cancel one part of the course due to unforeseen circumstances, another course date will be scheduled.
Our Aim
We understand that circumstances change and cancellation may be necessary or unexpected events may intervene in your plans and best intentions to attend your booked event. Our aim is to keep the events as affordable as possible and the events are carefully costed to maintain pricing. Events require considerable administration and organising months out and while we wish we could be more generous with refunds and the “next offer” terms, we are usually running fully-booked courses, so a loss of a participant prior to the course starting or during the course means a place that someone else could have filled. If your place cannot be filled by a substitute participant, costs will be incurred. If cancellation is made some weeks out we still may be able to fill the place by another participant. So we hope you find the terms fair and reasonable, but if you feel extenuating circumstances apply we are happy to discuss your situation.
