NZSTA Conference 2025 in Napier

We’ve got a strong contingent of Talking Trouble SLTs (present team and also well-loved colleagues and friends who have been involved in the past) at the Napier NZSTA Conference this week which kicks off today. We’re so looking forward to learning and being together. I think a lot of talking and fun is also going to be involved.

Some of us are involved in presenting this week in panels, workshops and presenting research on themes related to justice, advocacy, mental health, abuse and trauma and reflecting on the responding to Te Tiriti in our work.

There are materials here that relate to two sessions at the workshop I’m involved in presenting

  • 10 Sept workshop on exclusion, seclusion, restraint and restrictive practices which is with Tracy Karanui-Golf and Matua Haami Harmer. The ‘In the Gorse’ workbook that relates to that session is here. (The title of that workbook relates to this paper

and there is more explanation in the workbook about why we have used that title and chosen to structure the workshop in a particular way).

  • 11 Sept panel that follows Mary Woodward’s keynote about SLT and justice and mental health. I have added a page of links that relate to some of the topics I am hoping to refer to in my slot.
